A Time of Change, Community and Challenge

The Middle School years are a time of profound change and opportunity. At John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, we recognise that Years 7 to 9 are not just a bridge between primary and senior schooling, they are a powerful time for students to discover who they are, what they value, and how they learn best. At JSR we provide a nurturing and supportive environment where students are known, valued and encouraged to thrive. With a strong focus on wellbeing, belonging and learning, our Middle School supports students to build confidence, resilience and academic foundations during these important formative years.

Year 7

Year 7 supports students to settle confidently, connect with new teachers and peers, and build a strong sense of belonging.

Year 8

Year 8 is designed to embed a sense of community, a feeling of belonging and a love of learning.

Year 9

Year 9 is a pivotal year where students grow in independence, confidence and self-awareness. They are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning while exploring their interests across a broad and engaging curriculum.

With a strong focus on wellbeing, resilience and leadership, students build the skills and mindset needed for Senior School. Meaningful learning experiences and opportunities beyond the classroom help them develop character, responsibility and a sense of purpose.

Middle School Years

The Importance of the Middle Years

Early adolescence is a unique and formative stage of life. Young people in these years are developing their identity, building resilience, forming relationships, and navigating increasing academic expectations. Our Middle School program is designed to meet these needs with care, structure, and purpose. We believe that strong relationships, a sense of belonging, and a focus on wellbeing are just as important as academic learning in helping students flourish and attain their personal excellence.

Our Teaching Approach

Our teachers work closely to create a consistent, supportive, and responsive learning environment. We use evidence-based strategies that engage young minds, support developing skills, and foster curiosity. Whether students are exploring core subjects or engaging in the arts, sport, or technology, we encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Preparing for the Future

Middle School at JSR builds a strong foundation for future success, helping students grow in confidence, independence and effective learning habits. Through leadership, service and a supportive transition program, students are prepared, both academically and emotionally, to thrive in Senior School and beyond.

The Rite Journey

The Rite Journey is a unique and transformative program that supports our Year 9 students, and their families, through one of the most pivotal years of growth and change. Designed to guide the transition from childhood to young adulthood, the program combines meaningful classroom learning with experiential milestones and strong family partnerships.
