Culture of Care

At JSR, our culture of care is more than a pastoral program. It is a holistic approach to student wellbeing, supporting mental, physical and spiritual health while fostering self‑esteem, self‑awareness and respect for others. We believe that learning and wellbeing go hand in hand, and our pastoral care focus is designed to help every student thrive.

Our approach is underpinned by Anglican values and evidence‑based research, which provides a shared language of positive mental health across the school community. Through the school, students are supported to build resilience, develop emotional literacy and approach challenges with confidence.

At JSR, students are known, supported and valued. Strong pastoral care structures ensure each student feels safe, understood and encouraged throughout their learning journey.

Counselling and Student Wellbeing

The JSR Counselling Team provides specialist wellbeing support for students from Pre‑Kindergarten to Year 12. Working across the whole school, the team takes a consistent, developmental approach to student wellbeing, supporting students at every stage of their learning journey.

Our counsellors work closely with Pastoral Care staff, teachers and support services to ensure students receive timely, coordinated care. Support ranges from early intervention and individual counselling to group programs, wellbeing initiatives and guidance during critical incidents.

The team also partners with families and external agencies, helping parents and caregivers navigate support pathways and ensuring a shared approach to student wellbeing. Through proactive, preventative and responsive care, the JSR Counselling Team helps students feel safe, supported and equipped to approach learning and life with confidence and resilience.

Faith Formation

Faith Formation is an integral part of life at JSR, supporting the spiritual and pastoral wellbeing of our school community. Our team works across three areas.

Religious Studies which provides opportunities to consider and explore humankind's deepest questions and opening conversations about how Christianity and other faiths address them. Reflection echoed in the worship we experience together.

Service Learning is fundamental to building respect for others and maintaining a healthy, responsive community. As part of the faith dialogue, it allows our students and staff to live out God’s call to love God and love one’s neighbour, to make humble kindness part of who we are as individuals in this place.

Chaplaincy embraces pastoral care and worship .

Our faith formation team is committed to finding ways to encourage an engagement with faith in all of its forms. We look for creative ways to approach God through worship, study, and service.
