Year 8 at JSR
Year 8: A Year of Community
Year 8 is a pivotal year in which students continue to grow in confidence, connection and independence. As relationships deepen, students are supported in navigating social dynamics with empathy and assurance. Through our Wellbeing program, students develop resilience, practise gratitude and strengthen communication skills, supporting positive relationships and a strong sense of self.

Building on Habits
Academically, Year 8 builds on foundational learning while supporting students in establishing effective organisation, homework and study habits. Students are encouraged to think critically, approach challenges with confidence and take initiative in seeking support, laying strong foundations for future success.
Cross-curricular learning helps students connect knowledge and skills across different subject areas, making learning more meaningful and engaging. The Year 8 Medieval Experience brings together History, Science, English, the Arts and hands-on learning, allowing students to immerse themselves in medieval life while developing critical thinking, creativity and collaboration. Through experiences like this, students gain a deeper understanding of their learning and its real-world relevance.
Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Through a wide range of cocurricular opportunities, including clubs, and activities, students are encouraged to contribute, develop leadership capability and strengthen their connection to the broader community.
Service Learning Tour
JSR's Catalyst23 Service Learning Program connects students with the community through meaningful service. Previously, some Year 7–8 students had the opportunity to lead independent soccer and netball clinics in Esperance primary schools, donating equipment and demonstrating servant leadership, compassion and initiative, strengthening community connections and developing confident future leaders.
