Year 7 Baseline Testing

Monday 14 December, 2026

In order to adequately plan for your child’s academic growth and smooth transition to Middle School in 2027, we invite students new to JSR, who did not participate in scholarship testing on Saturday, 28 March 2026 to complete baseline testing.

The testing allows teachers to view any gaps in knowledge and plan differentiated learning programs, prior to the start of the school year. This testing is in line with data that is collected for all our current JSR students, as it is completed at JSR annually.

This Baseline Testing Day will take place on Monday, 14 December. Please arrive at 8.30am. We will finish at 12.30pm.

Parent Information

Starting High School is a daunting process for parents. At JSR we support our parents with the transition with information sessions, lists of key dates and events, including a parent sundowner, and a Parent Resource Hub.

Year 7 Camp

Wednesday 4 March – Friday 6 March 2026

As part of the School’s Transition program, Year 7 students attend a camp from Wednesday 4 March to Friday 6 March 2026. The camp will consist of activities including beach team building, supervised water-based activities as well as service learning and adventure experiences. In addition to these activities, students will engage with Year 9 Student Leaders, teachers and support staff who will coordinate sessions themed around welcoming our Year 7 students into the Middle School community.

The Camp has been designed to enhance opportunities for students to engage with one another in a less formal setting, to build strong and positive relationships within the year group. This is a significant aspect of our Transition program and an important rite of passage for students commencing their Middle School journey. We focus on this being a time of great change for each child and we emphasise high levels of support to ensure a smooth transition process.

A Consent2Go email about camp will be sent in early February, please ensure this is completed as soon as possible once received.

I trust that the camp aspect of the transition process will be a positive experience for your child and provide them with multiple opportunities to gain friendships.

Please contact Mrs Jessica Dicoski, Director of Pastoral Care Middle School should you have any questions or enquiries regarding camp or Orientation Day.

How does my child choose their Year 7 Subject Selections for 2027?

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to discuss these options with their child in preparation for subject selection. Please review the Course Outline Document and the Year 7 Parent Selection Letter for information regarding the teaching and learning opportunities for Year 7 2026.

All parents will be sent an email outlining the process and timeline for Year 7 subject selection, which will be completed online via EDVAL Choice. Subject selections are due by Friday 6 September 2026.

Families commencing at JSR during the year should note that preferred elective choices cannot be guaranteed.

How will I know if I have received my preferred specialist subjects?

A personalised letter will be emailed to parents/guardians or handed to your child around the middle of Term 4 to confirm your child’s elective subjects for Year 7, 2027.

This information should be used to plan and prepare for the 2027 academic year and will be a reference tool for when the booklists will be made available.

Will we have an opportunity to tour the Secondary School?

Yes

Students will have a tour of the School during their Orientation Day and again on HeadStart Day.

We also invite all parents to join us on Headstart Day for a tour of the school. While students are getting organised in the Middle School space, parents can tour the Secondary School with the Marketing and Community Engagement team.
